Of Pandas, People, and Propaganda Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Of Pandas, People, and Propaganda - Essay ExampleThis holds that the acquisition of knowledge can be explained by justified professedly judgement. Justified true belief was defined by Plato in his work Theatetus. This says that in order for anyone to truly know a thing, that thing must be true we must recollect it and there must be sufficient evidence for it (i.e., it must be justified). If a belief is justified, there is something which justifies it. The thing which justifies a belief can be c tout ensembleed its justifier. If a belief is justified, then it has at least one justifier What sort of thing can be a justifier Three things that hurt been suggested are beliefs only beliefs together with other conscious mental states and beliefs, conscious mental states, and other facts about us and our environment (which we may not exact access to) (Answers.com, 2005). Gettier posed the question Is justified true belief knowledge In his paper, Gettier set forth conundrums which he bel ieved demonstrated a fallacy with excuse of belief into knowledge.d. Jones is the man who will get the job, and Jones has ten coins in his pocket. Smiths evidence for (d) might be that the president of the company assured him that Jones would in the end be selected, and that he, Smith, had counted the coins in Joness pocket ten minutes ago. Proposition (d) entailsLet us e. The man who will get the job has ten coins in his pocket. Let us suppose that Smith sees the entailment from (d) to (e), and accepts (e) on the grounds of (d), for which he has strong evidence. In this case, Smith is clearly justified in believing that (e) is true. But imagine, further, that extraterrestrial to Smith, he himself, not Jones, will get the job. And, also, unknown to Smith, he himself has ten coins in his pocket. Proposition (e) is then true, though proposition (d), from which Smith inferred (e), is false. In our example, then, all of the following are true (i) (e) is true, (ii) Smith believes that (e) is true, and (iii) Smith is justified in believing that (e) is true. But it is equally clear that Smith does not know that (e) is true for (e) is true in virtue of the number of coins in Smiths pocket, while Smith does not know how many coins are in Smiths pocket, and bases his belief in (e) on a count of the coins in Joness pocket, whom he falsely believes to be the man who will get the job (Gettier, 1963). Gettier demonstrated that knowledge is not acquired as merely or straight-forwardly as philosophers had assumed for over 2000 years. Factual knowledge is not as simple or self-evident as it so often seems to be. Thus, the make for of learning cannot be taken for granted. Questions about learning and the acquisition of knowledge need to be posed that can apply to all disciplines, including the natural and loving sciences, history, the arts, mathematics, and language. Definitive answers are hard to come by. What is Truth said jesting Pilate, and would not stay for an answer , wrote Francis Bacon in his Of Truth, Essays or Counsels Civil and Moral (Theory of Knowledge, 2005). Philosophers have studied the head of epistemology ever since the time of Plato. Several different theories of the learning process have gained hold in Western

In addition, thither arose a need for all these organizations to implement new strategies to deal with newer versions of crimes. As a result, the leadership of vile justice organizations is a job that requires a lot of effort because of the large number of challenges faced by the profession today. Responsibilities of a Criminal Justice Organization Leader The first and foremost responsibility of criminal justice organization leaders is to effectively restrain crime. In the effort to perform this basic duty, the leaders will have to manage staff, oversee administration, and promote community relationships. A criminal justice organization leader has the responsibility to m anage staff under him. As a part of this, the leader will devise ways to improve the morale of the staff. In addition, it is for the leader to ensure proper and timely training and professional development to his staff. Also, keeping up ethics throughout the operations of the team is the duty of the leader. So, the leader should be a good role model, leading the team showing examples. In addition, the position of leader always requires smooth relation with community and media. In fact, it requires the cooperation of various agencies ranging from police, courts, prisons, and at times, private agencies. As a result, sometimes, there arises confusion when there is a change in law or in the attitude of any organization. For example, as Gallagher and Holmes (2008) point out, distinguishable political parties might have different outlook regarding various criminal and social issues. In addition, different judges and prosecutors who come time to time may possess considerably different outlooks. So, if the leaders of various organizations are not kept informed close to the changes in laws, attitudes, alliances, and modalities of approach, it becomes a matter of improper functioning. So, in total, it is for the leaders of criminal justice organizations to stay informed about the policy changes and basic policy differences. In addition, it becomes a challenge to keep the staff tuned to the changes that take place every now and then, including laws and

The war would rage throughout until 1919. In total, More tha n 9 million sailors, soldiers, and pilots were killed, 5 million civilians were caught in the crossfire of war, and then another 7 million men returned home injured and/or permanently disabled. There were also huge be involved in the length of the world, billions of dollars spent across the 28 different countries (Mintz 1). Discussion The consequences of WWI saw the United States begin to rise as dominate stinting and political power in the world, mostly because many of the nations of Europe were so depleted. For Europeans the consequences were quite harsh. The political, economic, and social orders of European society, in some cases, came crashing down. It saw the fall of the footstool Empire, Germany, Austrio-Hungary, and Russian empires (Keylor 1). New nations were emerging as borders began to change, ethnic tensions were heightening, and an inability to recover from the losses suffered due to the war. As a response many leaders want to establish a new international system tha t would help repair damage in Europe and lead to a more productive time to come for all of the nations. Delegates from these nations met in Paris, France in 1919 to discuss the Treaty of Versailles. However, the major powers, in the treaty discussions were left to Britain, France, Italy, and the United States. It was during this time that the league of Nations was established which would ideally help oneself in preventing other armed warfare in the future. Although, Germany mat slighted by the treaty, but did not lose territory and therefore signed the treaty. Also, many felt that the Germans were responsible for the majority of WWI, and therefore cost them dearly. Ultimately, the United State

Neanderthal - Term Paper ExampleThe group of mammals was named Neanderthals under world sapiens as dubbed as homo sapiens neanderthalensis (Trinkaus, 1978).From the studies conducted on the skeletons, it has been theorized that the Neanderthals lived during the ice age, thus their name. Researchers based their conclusions basically from the general features of the skeletal remains where it was observed that the Neanderthals had short limbs and a deep, wide ribcage which allowed lesser bob up area exposed to the atmosphere and making the internal organs embedded deep within the body to make them warm (bbc.co.uk, 2005). Aside from showing their office to adapt to the extreme cold during the ice age because of their physical features, they also tell about their way of living. For instance, the bone structures show an exaggerated massiveness in the trunk and limbs of the Neanderthal males and females (Trinkaus, 1978). This could be traced to how they got their food, through hunting. P rofessor John Shea (bbc.co.uk, 2005) concludes from studying the hunting materials of the Neanderthals that the spears they utilise were not purposely shot from afar but were used on a face to face encounter with their prey. Because the tools were not as sharp to have been used in attacking from a distance, the theory is that, the Neanderthals had to holdup on the wild animals until they get near before attacking them. This explains the muscle developments of the Neanderthals as shown by the skeletons and also helps to give light to the fractures found in most of the Neanderthal bones. For instance, Shanidar 3 (Trinkaus, 1978) has a scar o the rib which, based from studies, is theorized to be from an injury during a fight with a fellow Neanderthal or an accidental injury. The predecessors of the homo sapiens were found to have a similar brain size to the modern man (bbc.co.uk, 2005 Tattersall

Anxiety and Depression Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Anxiety and Depression - Essay ExampleThought the methodology of evaluation and the subsequent analysis ar fairly standard, there are a number of discrepancies noted. The authors are not exposed to the events leading to depression of the initial cohort, and whether it was of mild or severe nature. Whether the phase was preceded by same family or economic disaster, or were the patients genetically prone to the illness is not laid out.2 How were the previous cohort rehabilitated If the cause of the previous depression was an acute fly-by-night event, the individual has a greater chance to come out and carry on with life. The authors needed to correlate the present incidence of depression with the causative promoter initially3 The authors have given an incidence of 30% mortality in these individuals. It is probably more important to actually discuss the cause of the mortality also. We do not know the ages of the patients, and the exact etiology. The causation of death can be natural in some percentage, and how many of the dead were actually abject from persistent depression only can point this to be the cause. The questionnaire has not been included in the journal.

Inventory Stratification Essay Example for Free
armoury Stratification EssayCreating shareholder range is the ultimate goal of all businesses, so all processes should be directly tied to it.(1) The sweeping distributors core business process framework is a collection of process groups called 7S source, stock, sell, ship, supply chain planning, and support services. Linking these process groups to shareholder value are the process metrics percentage of slow moving neckcloth and the financial framework. This framework consists of the financial elements inventory the financial key performance indicators GMROII and the financial drivers profitability. Inventory stratification is a specific business process under the inventory management subgroup in the stock process of 7S. Like most processes on that point is a common, good, and scoop up practice for inventory stratification. Inventory stratification which includes the GMROII (gross margin return on inventory investment) method of A, B, C, D, X and Y items is considere d best practice. A, B, C, and D consist items in inventory ranked by percentage of profitability from higher profitability down to zero profitability respectively.X and Y represent items with zero inventories, X represents items with gross margin dollars and Y represents items without any gross margin dollars. GMROII focuses on the items profitability making it a financial driver and is considered best practice. However, for optimal inventory stratification solutions, the final rank should include a combination method of the GMROII method sales volume method representative of customer-centric entropy and the hits method representative of logistics base data. Once the weighted combination data is compiled, best practices can be implemented throughout all the 7S processgroups and in every section of the financial framework linking inventory stratification (process) directly to four financial drivers asset efficiency, profitability, cash flow, and growth. These four financial driv ers increase ROI (shareholder value). With inventory stratification complete sourcing has integral data to complete best practice process metrics for supplier management. Supplier stratification can help a firm modify their supplier base into one that is profitable and efficient for all channels within the supply chain.Supplier scorecards can be created which leads to many financial elements being increased. Inventory stratification is key for best practice levels in determining the right bout of suppliers as inventory stratification place of the product in terms of movement and profitability. This indirectly defines the required customer service level as well. With supplier performance improvement, higher satisfaction rate evolve both with the distributor and further more with the customer.. If the distributor is tracking the suppliers performance and is able to having periodic meetings with their suppliers based on the results of the scorecards this volition drive efficiency a nd supplier performance improvement. Also, higher supply chain reliability occurs since the supplier knows where the distributors need increased satisfaction levels to be able to continue servicing their customer at high standards. If the scorecard says the supplier is lacking in the area of competitive pricing the distributor and so has the data to begin price negotiations. This knowledge allows sourcing through the subgroup supplier management to eliminate suppliers who only provide C and D items finding the right number of suppliers for the organization. Eliminating C and D items humiliates inventory and increases GMROII. You now have the option of reinvesting the resulting capital into A and B items, paying back loans, or other business opportunities. In the debt reduction case, the impact can be readily seen on the balance sheet. The investment in A items leads to further sales opportunities. The reinvestments and its associated expected inventory turns will help in calculatin g special revenue and resulting improvement in EBITDA. Reinvestments can also be for capital purchases to position the business for future growth.Inventory stratification also affects the ship and store segments of the 7S process group. With the knowledge that can be obtained from the data slow moving items can beremoved from severalize inventory and a Regional Distribution Center (RDC) may be implemented. This allows the branches to carry more A or B items, or simply to reduce their inventory cost. RDCs are usually able to operate with less inventory by sales volume. Labor expense is also reduced effort profitability to the shareholders. Inventory stratification is the primary driver for sales herald and helps populate fill rates by rank. Forecasted demand combined with lead metre and safety stock is the primary component to reorder point. Inventory stratification minimizes the normally time consuming forecast process both with information systems resources and with pitying r esources. The best practice forecasting model is driven off the inventory stratification and is therefore driven by the sell segment, this numerically factual forecast will be void of the emotional forecasting of the sales force. Marketing can use the inventory stratification to process what customers needs are or what customers are interested in. Inventory stratification is integral in both customer stratification which once completed and redeployment of the sales force has occurred additional revenues are recognized and cost to serve are reduced again driving profit to shareholders. Customer service often drives large, inefficient inventories in an movement to be all things to all people. Shareholder value seeks to carry only profitable products, at reasonable levels, producing maximum sales, while also increasing securities industry share. Inventory stratification is an integral part of this process.(1) Optimizing Distributor Profitability Best Practices to a Stronger Bottom Lin e, by Senthil Gunasekaran, Pradip Krishnadevarajan, F. The respondent families of the girls and women with disabilities had sought treatment from a varied range of sources even at high costs. The family members paid about 89% of the treatment costs. This indicates the carry of poor health service delivery to the persons with disabilities at state level, which has mandatory obligation to deliver such minimum medi-care cost free. That is the poorest of the poor even do not get the bare basics of health services.EducationDisability is a barrier to education. Only 3. 75% proceeded to university education in the woman with disability group. The highest enrollment can be seen at the primary school level at 21. 25% for women with disabilitie s and 30. 67% for girls with disabilities respectively. Some are in education process where their disability is not visibly identified. Employment It was discouraging to note that very insignificant number of respondents (3. 21%) from the two groups were involved in full time income generating activities. 64. 2% were academic term idle with no work. However some of them, particularly the women with disabilities (21. 88%) were somehow earning some income through different activities mostly in the informal sector. Although the number is not mentionable, some women with disabilities are engaged in multi-sectorial wrinkles like office job, teaching, small business, day-laborer, housemaid, handicrafts worker, dairy poultry raising, sewing, and house-hold works etc. In most cases they man aged to arrange the job themselves with out any external support. The income of the women or girls with disabilities is mostly spent in meeting the family needs but their family and the society do not always pull ahead the engagement in jobs/works of the girls or women with disabilities. It revealed that only 7. 10% participated in games and sports. A larger, yet still negligible, number of the respondents, 26. 3%, participated in social activities. However, figures state that actual participation is low by women and girls with disabilities, but in terms of their intention to pa rticipate, the response is satisfactorily high. 53. 5% reported that they were interest to participate, while only 7. 5% commented that they would never like to participate. In the adolescence group, the families with members in between 6 to 10 numbered highest with figures of 80 (53. 33%). Families with members in between 1 to 5, numbering 65 (43. 33%) come next. For a larger family it is possible to share the care-time required for the disabled family member. Abuse Women with disabilities appear to be at high risk for emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. The prevalence of abuse of the girls and women with disabilities was 92% for both groups. Al most the equal percentage of women and girls with disabilities reported emotional abuse (78% and 75%), incidents of physical abuse (82% for both) are also same. And cases of sexual abuses (32% and 37%) have however, little difference. In many cases parents also abuse the girls and women with disabilities. Most of the incidences of sexual abuses occur among the girls and women with intellectual disabilities. In the second frequency of sexual abuse towards girls and women with disabilities goes to hearing impairment. This is surprising to note that the traditional healers abuse the girls and women with disabilities sexually in the name of offering therapy or treatment. Not only the abused girls and women even their family members do not feel comfortable to disclose such cases of abuses because of social threat or embarrassment.Reproductive healthMost of the girls and women are not much aware of the issues related to the phases of fruitful health. People identified disability, particularly of the women, as a risk factor for reproductive health. The society is still conservative to discuss reproductive health issues. The parents (even mothers) do not share any sexual and reproductive health issues or learning with their daughters. Most of the adolescent girls get idea about the phases of physical development and trans ition period (internal transformation or menstrual) from peers, elder sisters, sister-in-laws, grandmothers etc.Majority of the girls with disabilities had experienced serious problem of shock, phobia, depression, and embarrassment while facing period. Especially the girls with speech and hearing impairment face difficulty in passing this period due to limited communication capability. Physical growth Natural physical growth is a normal development process in the human body due to hormonal changes. The physical change also effects changes in behaviour and attitudes of a person, but in case of intellectual disabled, family could not measure or notice such physical changes that are usually expected and hence they became worried.Psychological phenomenon The psychology of the girls and women with disabilities is dependent on many emotional, environmental and social factors such as self-assessment, personal acceptance, family and social attitude, isolation and etc. Many girls and women e ven with minor disabilities are facing problems of acceptance in their families. Segregation from the society and family was common feature for girls and women with disabilities in many cases. In many cases, the girls and women with disabilities were segregated even at their work places. It is evident that the girls and women with disabilities are deprived of their Basic Human Rights like food, clothes, education and treatment etc. That creates negative influence on overall psychological development or mindset of the disabled women and girls. Sexual abuses in many cases have caused stressful situation on the psyche of the girls and women with disabilities, which ultimately made them isolated and frustrated. Ability, dignity and self-esteem Majorities of the girls and women with disabilities including severe level of disabilities have the confidence to be educated and subsequent engagement in contributing activities. Many of them have skills in trades like sewing, cooking, painting, ha ndicrafts, tailoring, dairy and poultry raising and etc. There are evidences of extra-ordinary achievement by severely disabled women. Some of the girls and women with disabilities who had luckily access to employment, developed romantic relationship with the desired one and are now funding a happy married life. The self-esteem of the girls and women with disabilities is more strongly influenced by social and environmental factors.

Explanations of disorders of memory Essay Example for Free
Explanations of disorders of memory EssayAn evaluation point for repression is research by Levinger and Clark, they carried out a study where the Ps were given negatively charged terminology and neutral words. They had to do a word association task whilst having their skin response measured. The Ps were then given the cue words again and asked the associations hey had just reported. They found that Ps took longer to recall the negatively charged associations than the neutral ones. So it could be said that it took longer to access the unconscious mind for the word associations. It has been reported that between 20-60% of people undergoing therapy as a result of child sexual abuse report periods in their lives when they could not ring the abuse had taken place. This supports repression as it shows that the memories had been repressed in their unconscious. However it could be said that they did not want to recall the events so in that respectfore pretended they couldnrsquot remem ber. Freud published case studies for his neurotic patients to support his ideas of repression. These have been questioned as inaccurate, barely the case studied were unique and one off and cant be verbalize as the study took place on white, middle class neurotic women only. The study could be therefore be said to be Oestocentric and culture bias. The study however did have rich qualitative data. Post traumatic stress disorder is where people re-live traumatic events that have taken place in supposition lives. This contradicts repression theory as these people are always remembering it as its not being repressed like Freud says they should.Robinson et al found that the memory of childbirth offend seems to be forgotten or repressed over time. This supports Freuds theory as child birth can be very traumatic however there are problems with using this evidence to support repression. It is difficult to generalise as the pain of childbirth is more painful and lasts longer than other typ es of pain. In closedown all the theories of forgetting have their strengths but some seem to have more credibility and face validity than others. Psychologists however have considered that forgetting can be induce by memory disorders such as amnesia and dementia.
